Adult checking responsiveness of an infant

According to American Heart Association guidelines, Infant CPR is used for babies under 12 months of age. CPR techniques for infants are different from those used for children and adults due to their smaller size and fragile bodies.

Infant CPR

Infants most often require CPR because of breathing problems, such as choking or suffocation, rather than heart disease. Acting quickly can greatly improve an infant’s chance of survival.

If an infant becomes unresponsive, send someone to call 911. If you are alone, begin CPR and continue for about 1–2 minutes before leaving the infant to call 911 and get help.
