A for Infant Airway

Airway: Clear the Airway

Place the infant on their back on a firm, flat surface such as the floor or a table. Position the head in a neutral position. Gently lift the chin with one hand while placing the other hand on the forehead. Do not tilt the head back too far, as this can block the airway in infants.

Take no more than 10 seconds to check for breathing. Look for chest movement, listen for breath sounds, and feel for air on your cheek.

If the infant is not breathing normally or is only gasping, begin rescue breaths immediately.
